LexisNexis Promoting Literacy Among School Children In Need

In October 2007, employees from Reed Business Information (RBI), LexisNexis and Elsevier volunteered half of their day in classrooms at Public School 123 in Harlem for Reed Elsevier Publishing Day. Employees ran workshops for 4th and 5th graders promoting literacy and talking about career options in the world of publishing. The workshops covered various aspects of magazine publishing, including the editorial process, advertising, design and production, and technology.

According to the school's principal, the student population of PS 123 is made up of some of New York City's neediest youngsters, with at least one-third of the children living in shelters managed by the city or social service agencies. At the beginning of each school year, Reed Business Information donates notebooks, paper, pencils, and crayons so that all students can begin the year on more equal footing.
