LexisNexis Canada’s electronic filing service, available in English and French, allows lawyers in Canada to file documents electronically with a court or tribunal via a secure, Internet-based system. For courts and law firms, this means greater control over case file management.
The LexisNexis® e-filing solution provides Canadian courts, tribunals, law firms, and lawyers with greater control over case file management.
Benefits to Lawyers and Law Firms
- Increase direct control — E-filing eliminates steps in the filing process that can compromise the integrity of documents and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Eliminate uncertainty from filing — Lawyers know immediately that the court or tribunal has received their filing.
- Extended filing hours — Matters can be e-filed to the Federal Court until 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
- No paper copy — Lawyers do not need to file a paper copy (for the Federal Court, limited to documents under 500 pages).
Benefits to Courts and Tribunals
- Maximize resources — E-filing streamlines fee collection, document intake, retrieval, and storage activities.
- Improve document access and management — Document storage and retrieval is fast, easy, and reliable.
- Available online immediately — Documents are available online as soon as they are accepted.
- No paper copy — Courts and tribunals do not need to store the paper copy of the document.
In the United States, the LexisNexis® File & Serve e-filing solution has more than 85,000 registered users in 26 states and the District of Columbia. In 2005, LexisNexis Canada launched a bilingual nationwide e-filing pilot project with the Courts Administration Service acting on behalf of the Federal Court. LexisNexis continues to work with Canadian courts and tribunals to develop an e-filing solution tailored to the needs of Canadian courts, tribunals, law firms, and lawyers.
LexisNexis now offers electronic filing for all proceedings before the Federal Court.
Reduce paper and copying expenses and pay a single transactional filing fee each time you e-file an "envelope", or group of documents, in a particular
matter with the Federal Court. Quicklaw™ customers receive a 15% discount off each filing. For more information, visit
the Billing section.
The court rules and policies have been amended so that filers do not need to file paper copies of most e-filed documents (for the Federal
Court, this does not apply to documents over 500 pages). Likewise, signatures are not required on e-filed documents, providing that the
filer maintains a copy of the original signed version in their file.
