Don advises both vendors and users of technology products and services and assists large and small clients in commercializing, protecting and acquiring technology related assets and services. Don has extensive experience in outsourcing and technology transactions, including business process, technology infrastructure, customer care and call center outsourcing transactions, as well as systems integration, technology development, licensing, acquisition, channel arrangements and hosting agreements.

Don has extensive experience in outsourcing and technology transactions, including business process, technology infrastructure, customer care and call center outsourcing transactions, as well as systems integration, technology development, licensing, acquisition, channel arrangements and hosting agreements.

Prior to joining Dentons, Don was General Counsel for Basis100 Inc., a Canadian public company, and Canadian counsel for Tandem Computers Canada and Compaq Canada after Compaq purchased Tandem. Before becoming a lawyer, Don obtained his Chartered Accountant (CPA) designation while working at Touche Ross & Co. as an auditor.

Experience

  • Represented Real Matters, a leading provider of property insights to the North American mortgage and property and casualty (P&C) insurance industries, in the completion of its recent growth financing (February 2012)
  • Represented a major utility in its contract negotiations in relation to its customer care outsourcing to the service provider
  • Represented a small technology company in its private placement financing and the subsequent reverse takeover of a Capital Pool Company trading on the TSX Venture Exchange
  • Represented one of Canada's largest chartered banks in a national program to replace over 2,l000 of its Automated Banking Machines
  • Represented Cancer Care Ontario, an agency of the Government of Ontario, in its development, implementation and deployment of the Wait Time Information System for the Province of Ontario's health care system
  • Represented the Canadian affiliate of one of the world's largest international financial services and card issuers in its role as a Tier 1 subcontractor to the prime contractor in the Canadian Federal Government's Travel Modernization Project, a multi-year, multi-billion dollar travel and credit card services arrangement
