Andrea practises employment and privacy law in a broad range of contexts. She is an experienced advocate with a practice exclusively devoted to advising corporations and other employers. Andrea is the Practice Group Leader of Blakes' National Employment and Labour Group and Co-Chair of the Firm's Privacy Group.

Andrea is the National Practice Group Leader of the Employment & Labour Group at Blakes and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Privacy Group.  She is an experienced advocate with over 20 years of experience in the areas of employment and privacy law.  Her practice is devoted exclusively to advising corporations and other employers on employment and privacy law matters. 

Andrea is known for providing clients with timely and practical advice, working with employers across a variety of industries, including banking and financial services, retail, manufacturing, medical and consumer products, technology, pharma, and marketing and advertising. In addition to providing day-to-day compliance and strategic advice, Andrea regularly works with clients on the preparation of employment and termination agreements, and acts for employers in various legal proceedings, including wrongful dismissal and human rights claims and in claims enforcing post-employment obligations. Andrea also advises on the employment and privacy law aspects of commercial transactions, including M&A transactions, reorganizations, insolvencies and outsourcing transactions.

Andrea is also a member of the Blakes NITRO team, and a member and past Co-Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at Blakes.

  • Andrea was a key member of the Blakes team advising one of the world's largest healthcare services and information technology companies on its acquisition of independent retail pharmaceutical banner and franchise retail pharmaceutical businesses in a transaction that was completed in consideration of approximately $925 million.
  • Andrea provided practical and strategic advice to a U.S.-based financial institution in the context of the sale of its Canadian credit card portfolio in a transaction valued at $8.5 billion and involving approximately 1,700 employees.
  • Andrea successfully defended an employer in credibility-focused Human Rights Tribunal hearing dealing with claim of pregnancy discrimination following termination.
  • Andrea also appeared before Human Rights Tribunal in high-profile case involving a conflict between religious accommodation requirements and worker health and safety.
