Jamie's expertise as a mediator includes: class actions, commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, directors' and oﬃcers' liability, product liability, property and casualty insurance, subrogated actions, disability insurance, insurance coverage disputes, personal injury, medical malpractice, professional liability, and professional ethics and discipline.
In his role as a mediator and arbitrator, Jamie designed a court-approved compensation plan to distribute the proceeds of a signiﬁcant class action settlement and also adjudicated individual claims by hundreds of class members.
Jamie practiced at a national law ﬁrm, both as a litigation partner and as General Counsel, the ﬁrst such appointment at a Canadian law ﬁrm. As a result, Jamie has unique insight as a mediator in accommodating and reconciling opposing views.
Jamie founded and led the Canadian Association of Law Firm Risk Management and participated as a panelist on risk management seminars, including the Canadian Bar Association Law Leadership Conference.
Jamie received his B.A. (Hons.) from Queen's University in 1977, his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1980 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1982. Jamie is the former Chair of the Canadian Lawyers' Subcommittee of DRI's Lawyers' Professionalism and Ethics Committee and a former member of the Dean's Advisory Council of Osgoode Hall Law School. Jamie also served as a member of the Executive of both the Canadian Bar Association National ADR Section and Ontario Bar Association ADR Section.
