Jeffrey Oliver is a partner at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, practising in corporate restructuring and insolvency law. Jeffrey routinely acts for lenders, landlords, purchasers, debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, directors, trustees, receivers and monitors. Jeffrey has extensive experience in detecting and prosecuting fraud actions, both within insolvency proceedings and in standard commercial litigation.

Jeffrey routinely acts for lenders, landlords, purchasers, debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, directors, trustees, receivers and monitors. He advises clients on corporate reorganizations, bankruptcies, receiverships, foreclosures, lease realizations and loan workouts, including on cross-border insolvencies and realizations. 

Jeffrey also has extensive experience in detecting and prosecuting fraud actions, both within insolvency proceedings and in standard commercial litigaton.  In that regard, he has experience acting on behalf of investors, mortgage insurers, and lenders.

Jeffrey is currently the only Western Canadian who has been named a Fellow of INSOL International. INSOL is a worldwide federation of national associations for accountants and lawyers who specialize in turnaround and insolvency. This designation is in recognition of Jeffrey's expertise in cross-border insolvency matters

  • Represented CNOOC Limited in its US$2.1 billion acquisition of OPTI Canada Inc. pursuant to the CBCA and CCAA.
  • Represented a senior secured lender in the Unity Builders CCAA proceedings
  • Represented secured creditors and stalking horse bidders in the receivership of WellPoint Systems Inc.
  • Represented secured creditors in the CCAA proceedings of Jung Developments Inc. and Western Express Airlines Inc.
  • Represented purchasers of assets in CCAA proceedings of A & B Sound
  • Represented unsecured creditors in the CCAA proceedings of BA Energy and Westbay Sonship Yachts and bankruptcy of North American Steamships Ltd.
  • Represented a US Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee in Canadian proceedings to trace assets into Canada
  • Represented a group of investors in an allegedly fraudulent mortgage investment scheme to appoint a receiver
  • Represented the receiver of Tru Northcentral RV, Auto & Marine Ltd. and Tru Northwest RV, Auto & Marine Ltd.
  • Represented a group of debenture holders in the receivership of Aspen Endeavour Resources Inc.
  • Represented trustee in bankruptcy of Phytogen Life Sciences Inc. and proposal trustee in New Home Warranty of British Columbia Inc. and Desmarais Energy Corporation
  • Represented secured creditors in receiverships of SQFive Intelligent oilfield solutions and JW Auto Group
  • Represented liquidator in Winding-Up and Restructuring Act proceedings of Commonwealth Trust Company liquidation

  • Represented co-owners of a large parcel of land on Savary Island, British Columbia in a contested action to partition the property
