Mathew Rago graduated top of his class from Law School at the University of Sussex. He articled for David Cote and joined the firm as an associate in 2018.

Acting for employees and employers, Mathew provides advice in constructive and wrongful dismissal cases, health and safety, workplace safety and insurance (workers’ compensation) and human rights claims. Where necessary, he litigates these cases. Mathew has experience negotiating, mediating and settling cases on both the employee and employer side and, where possible, always tries to be collaborative to achieve a quick and cost-effective result for his client.

Mathew has experience assisting employers in defending certification applications; and mounting and defending unfair labour practice complaints before the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

Where employees feel like their union isn’t looking out for their best interests, Mathew provides advice and assistance in bringing Duty of Fair Representation and Duty of Fair Referral complaints before the Labour Relations Board.

Mathew is an avid Toronto sports fan and is always informed on the latest stats or trades. He is also a movie and TV junkie and will always have a quote or line in his back pocket if the moment calls for it. He also spends his off-time experimenting in the kitchen learning everything about new cuisines and cultures. No dish is too complicated, and no flavour is too exotic for Mat’s tastes.
