Peter is a lawyer, patent agent, and trademark agent based in Toronto. Prior to founding Adapt IP Law, Peter obtained almost 20 years of experience in intellectual property law from three leading boutique IP law firms, each having been ranked as a top ten IP boutique.

Peter’s practice is primarily focused on high-tech and mechanical patent drafting, prosecution and portfolio management. Peter has extensive experience with guiding patent applications through to issuance before the Canadian patent office. He is also intimately familiar with the U.S. patent system, having written the U.S. patent bar in 2005. Peter also prepares and files international PCT patent applications and manages the global prosecution of patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions including Europe.

Peter was the co-founder of one of these firms.

Peter’s practice is primarily focused on high-technology and mechanical patent drafting, prosecution and portfolio management. Peter has extensive experience with guiding patent applications through to issuance before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He is also intimately familiar with the U.S. patent system, having written the U.S. patent bar in 2005. Peter also prepares and files international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications and manages the global prosecution of patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions including Europe.

Peter has prepared and filed patent applications for a wide range of technologies, including smartphones, cryptocurrency (e.g., blockchain)-related technology, industrial machinery, medical imaging systems, peer-to-peer networking and video processing.

Peter’s practice also includes the preparation, filing and prosecution of industrial design applications for protecting the ornamental aspects of articles. Additionally, Peter prepares patentability, validity, infringement and freedom-to-operate opinions that inform his clients’ IP-related business strategies.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Peter worked in industry as a software engineer for approximately 5 years. As a result, he has a rapport with engineers and inventors that fosters a deep understanding of their technology, which in turn promotes the acquisition of strong IP protection.

  • Advising established industrial machinery company with revenues > $1B regarding patent infringement risks of proposed launch of new manufacturing equipment.

  • Peter was listed in Industrial Asset Management (IAM) “Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals” in 2019-2020.
  • While attending law school at the University of Toronto, Peter won the Bereskin & Parr Prize for having the highest standing in courses concerned with intellectual property.
