Tai is a Partner in the Intellectual Property Group in Miller Thomson's Waterloo office. His practice focuses on acquisition, exploitation and management of intellectual property rights, including patent drafting and prosecution, patent opinions, procurement of trademark and industrial design (design patent) registrations, copyright, licensing, due diligence, IP portfolio management, and related matters. He has worked with corporate clients in diverse fields (including information technology, telecommunications, wireless, Internet, software, banking, scientific instruments, and general manufacturing) seeking patent protection for technologies relating to physical and logical systems, software, mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, and manufacturing methods and processes.

He has worked with corporate clients in diverse fields (including information technology, telecommunications, wireless, Internet, software, banking, scientific instruments, and general manufacturing) seeking patent protection for technologies relating to physical and logical systems, software, mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, and manufacturing methods and processes.

He has worked with some of the largest multinational companies in the information and communication technologies ("ICT") sector, as well as small-to-medium enterprise ("SME") companies in general manufacturing, health care, clean tech, and medical devices. Tai also enjoys working with individual inventors, start-ups and SMEs to help them identify and protect their IP rights and establish a competitive IP strategy.

Prior to entering law school, Tai worked for a major multinational computer company providing systems engineering support. In the course of obtaining his degree in Systems Design Engineering, he interned at another major multinational computer company where he gained valuable experience in computer operations and manufacturing. He is a Registered Patent and Trademark Agent in Canada, and is also qualified to represent Canadian applicants before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the international Patent Cooperation Treaty ("PCT") Office. Tai also represents Canadian applicants around the world through a network of foreign IP associates.
