Tate McLeod practises commercial litigation, with an emphasis on insurance and real estate disputes. He also has experience with transnational proceedings. His insurance practice focuses on health and life insurance (particularly disability benefit claims), professional liability claims (including medical malpractice, accountants' negligence and negligence claims in the securities/mutual fund industry), property insurance, general liability insurance, and directors' and officers' liability insurance. His real estate litigation practice involves giving advice and litigating a wide range of lease disputes, including rent renewal disputes, distraint issues, right of first refusal disputes, exclusivity clause disputes, nuisance claims and injunctions and easement/right of way disputes.

He also provides coverage opinions, policy interpretation and drafting advice. He is an active executive member of the Ontario Bar Association Insurance Law Section.

?Mr. McLeod's real estate litigation practice involves giving advice and litigating a wide range of lease disputes, including rent renewal disputes, distraint issues, right of first refusal disputes, exclusivity clause disputes, nuisance claims and injunctions and easement/right of way disputes. He also has experience handling provincial offences charges, water damage claims, construction defect disputes, ?failure to close/aborted transaction disputes, post-closing disputes and a wide range of owner/occupier liability claims.

His transnational litigation experience includes a case argued before the Ontario Court of Appeal at the same hearing as what became, at the time, the leading case on jurisdiction and forum disputes. In addition, he recently obtained summary judgment in Ontario recognizing and enforcing a foreign judgment and successfully defeated an appeal of the decision to the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Mr. McLeod frequently advises and represents insurance companies, chartered banks and other financial institutions, commercial property owners, managers and large tenants, mutual fund dealers, and both local and multinational companies in the transportation and high-tech industries. He has successfully appeared before all levels of the Ontario provincial courts, including the Ontario Court of Appeal. He also has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation.
