Canada News Now Available Under the Canada Flag

We are excited to announce that Canada News Sources are now available as a new content type under the Canada flag. Now when a search string is entered in the Red Search Box Canada News Sources will be searched along-side other content types making it easier-than-ever for researchers to access the valuable Canada News Sources on Lexis Advance© Quicklaw©.

Canada News can be accessed via a number of options on Lexis Advance© Quicklaw©. Options include: direct access to news sources via the word-wheel; the ability to browse sources via the Browse feature; the ability to add Canada News Sources to your search using pre-search filters; and the ability to use post-search filters to access News Sources after running a search.

To access news sources via the Word Wheel:

  1. Enter the name of the News Source you would like to access in the Red Search Box (i.e. Ottawa Citizen).
  2. The News Source will appear under the Add Sources as Filter Option in the word-wheel.
  3. Click on Source Title to add the source as a filter, or alternately select Get documents to view all documents from the source.

To browse Canada News Sources via the Browse Option:

  1. Go to Browse
  2. Select Sources
  3. Select Canada
  4. Select By Category
  5. Select CA News

  6. Then browse the alphabetical list of sources provided and select the source(s) you would like to search.

To Access Canada News Sources via Post-Search Filters:

  1. Enter your search terms in the Red Search Box (i.e. General Motors plant closure), and then click the Search icon.
  2. Then from the panel on the left, select CA News to restrict your results to Canada News Sources.

To add Canada News Sources to your search via Pre-search filters:

  1. Enter your search terms in the Red Search Box (i.e. General Motors plant closure) and then select Search Everything to view the pre-search filter options.

  2. Under Narrow by, select Content Type, then select CA-News and click Search.

  3. The results list has been pre-filtered to Canada News Sources. You may now use the Narrow by options on the left to further filter your results.

New Advanced Search Forms Now Available for Canada Sentencing Quantums and Détermination de la peine

We are excited to announce that new Advanced Search Forms are now available for the Canada Sentencing Quantums and Détermination de la peine Quantums, making it easier than ever to access and search these popular quantum services.

To access the new Advanced Search Forms for these quantum services:

  1. Enter the name of the quantum service you would like to search in the Red Search Box (i.e. Canada Sentencing Quantums).
  2. The source title will appears in the word-wheel under Add Source as Filter, simply click the source title to select it, and it will be added as a filter.

  3. Then from the top right corner, above the Red Search Box, select Advanced Search. This will take you to the Advanced Search Form for the quantum service you opted to search. Use the options provided in the Advanced Search Form to restrict your search accordingly.

Coming Soon Canada Sentencing Quantums and Détermination de la peine via Explore Content

Canada Sentencing Quantums and Détermination de la peine will be added to the popular Explore Content pod in the near future. This will provide easy access to the new quantums Advanced Search Forms which were added to Lexis Advance© Quicklaw© with this release.

Further Enhancements to the Lexis Advance® Quicklaw® Natural Language Algorithm

With this release, we continued to make enhancements to the Natural Language Algorithm on Lexis Advance® Quicklaw®. Additional work was done by our Lexicon Team which resulted in further enhancements to our Phrase Boost Algorithm, and further expansion of our Lexicon phrase dictionary. These enhancements will help streamline results, and provide improved highlighting of phrases within the search results list.

Legislation – Table of Content Enhancement

Based on your feedback, we have enhanced the Legislation Table of Contents tabs on Lexis Advance Quicklaw to include section-titles. Now when using the Table of Contents tab to navigate through Acts and Regulations you will see both section-numbers and section-titles in the Table of Contents. This new feature will make it easier to quickly identify sections of an Act or Regulation that deal with a specified topic.
