Competition Bureau Sues Canada’s Wonderland Over Alleged Drip Pricing Practices
Emerging Issue – Deceptive Pricing and False Advertising

The Competition Bureau has initiated legal proceedings against Canada’s Wonderland, alleging that the park’s online ticketing system engages in deceptive pricing practices by showcasing low advertised prices that exclude additional mandatory processing fees. Termed "drip pricing," this practice misleads consumers by presenting an incomplete price upfront, potentially violating fair advertising standards under Canadian competition law. While the Bureau is seeking an order to cease these practices, penalize the company, and require restitution for affected consumers, Canada’s Wonderland defends its practice by asserting that fee disclosures are transparent and that the pricing structure supports consumer choice. This case may have broader implications for how online pricing is regulated in the context of evolving digital commerce. Discover key insights on this emerging issue by reviewing this Law360 Canada article.
